First Grants Announced

Projects focusing on Body Image are Rosa's first ever grantees.

Rosa will be supporting three exceptional projects working on this crucial issue.

Body Image impacts women across the UK – from the unreasonable pressures of the beauty industry on young women and girls, to the demands on women to look eternally youthful, to the lack of diversity in media imagery.

In response to these challenges, Rosa sought out projects that support women and girls to be confident, strong and empowered in their bodies and their abilities. From over 100 applications from around the UK, we identified three diverse projects:

Bin the Beauty Box (ICA:UK/Feminist Webs)
: A group of female volunteers (aged 13-70) and youth workers will be taking a series of events across the Northwest of England, to spread knowledge of feminist youth work around Body Image and help young women inform decision makers and media about the importance of the issue.

Powerbodies (The Powerhouse)
: This London-based grassroots organisation is run by and for women with learning difficulties. The women will be taking part in workshops and theatre/arts activities to explore how their bodies are perceived and increase their personal understanding of their bodies and abilities.

My Image and Me (Mimbre)
: This female led company challenges typical roles in dance, circus, and acrobalance. They will be supporting young girls from low income families in North and East London and their mothers/carers to discover their physical strength and skill through dance.

Having now had a chance to get to know the amazing women and girls working on these projects, we are eager to see their progress over the year – and we’ll also be keeping you up to date on what they’re up to.
