The latest from Rosa

Over £700,000 invested in women and girls in local communities through the Woman to Woman fund

Rosa is awarding grants totalling £766,580 to 55 projects across the UK through the second round of the Woman to Woman fund.

This fund, supported by the so-called ‘Tampon Tax’, will support groups that work with women and girls from disadvantaged communities or in disadvantaged areas in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. This funding is part of a wider commitment made by HM Treasury and DCMS to distribute Tampon Tax funds to women’s charities.

Samantha Rennie, Executive Director of Rosa says “Through our partnership with DCMS and HM Treasury we have been able to fund important and innovative projects all over the country and provide them with step-up support to help them be more impactful and sustainable.

Whilst gender inequality and sexual harassment, of and by public figures, dominates the headlines, these funds are reaching women and girls who’s voice is often least heard. These grants help unleash the power women have to make positive change for other women in their communities in some of the most disadvantaged areas in the UK.”

Grants include £6,000 to Dynamic Support Manchester for a series of workshops to support refugee and asylum seeking mothers; £6,802 to support the Dundee Women’s Festival’s 2018 event; and £19,477 to BelEve UK to support a programme of workshops and mentoring for teenage girls.

Chyloe Powell from BelEve UK says “We are so excited to receive this funding from Rosa. It will support us in continuing our work in inspiring and supporting girls and young women to become leaders of their world. More can be done to give girls and young women the knowledge and confidence to fulfil their potential; this grant helps us do that.”

The next round of Woman to Woman funding will open for applications in the New Year and those interested should sign up for news at: www.rosauk.org.
