UK Feminista has been successfully raising the profile of feminism. Coverage of their recent work included the naming of their director – Kat Banyard – as one of the Observers’ 50 Contemporary Innovators, and one of One World Actions One Hundred Women: The Unseen Powerful Women Who Change the World. UK Feminista has also run two national, sell-out events this year (Fem 11 and Summer School), providing direct education and training to approximately 1500 activists.

Summer School was a two-day training event for feminist activists at the University of Birmingham. The aim was to inspire women and men to take action for gender equality and equip them with the knowledge and skills to make change happen. The event was attended by 500 people and received national media coverage. Photos from Summer School are available here.

FEM 11, held in November provided a space in which to build networks between activists and organisations and to explore routes forward for the feminist movement. FEM 11 was attended by over 1000 people with 16 feminist organisations delivering workshops and seminars.

UK Feminista have also created a new activist group which have staged and supported a number of protests around London against pornography, commercial sexual exploitation and the impact of the cuts on women. For more information on these protests click here.
